Private Lie Detector Test: An In-Depth Overview
The private lie detector test, also known as a Polygraph Test or Forensic Psycho-Physiological Credibility Assessment, is widely used in the United States. This detailed and comprehensive method takes approximately two hours and is intricately designed for maximum accuracy. The test involves several critical stages:
In-depth Psychological Evaluation
An essential element of the process is the comprehensive psychological assessment of the person being tested. When both partners in a relationship opt for the test, this evaluation is conducted for each partner to ensure a thorough understanding of the dynamics involved.
Specialized Testing Environment
The polygraph test is conducted in a room specifically designed for this purpose, equipped to foster a controlled and unbiased testing atmosphere. The test subject is connected to advanced instruments that track physiological responses commonly linked to deceptive behaviors, like alterations in heart rate, blood pressure, and skin reactions.
Analysis and Results Discussion
Following the polygraph test, the examiner meticulously analyzes the data and discusses the results with the client. This phase is focused on providing a transparent and comprehensive understanding of the findings.
Provision of a Verified Comprehensive Report
A detailed and thoroughly vetted report is compiled, encapsulating the findings of the test. This report undergoes a secondary review for accuracy and is then presented to the client, reinforcing the reliability of the test results.

The Polygraph Lie Detector Test
The test can last up to two hours depending on the complexity of the subject matter and the particular examinee to be tested. The examinee is asked up to 8 questions, 2 – 3 of them being specific to the issue. The remainder are test questions to work out the metrics and behaviour to build up the profile of the examinee. That is how we can provide between 95% – 98% accuracy on the polygraph test, which I imagine is what you are looking for, hence you contacting us.
Clients are asked if they can, where possible provide a written mandate to take to the test as to what needs to be tested with full date, times and other case facts needed to make the test accurate.
Questions that can be asked
- All questions are strictly yes / no answers.
- Questions should not contain conjunctions such as ‘and’, ‘or’. The use of these in a sentence can make the question ambiguous and multifaceted. This can result in inconclusive results.
- The questions should not be long winded or lengthy in construction. They should be short and to the point.
- The more questions pertaining to the same issue, the more accurate the result will be.
- The examiner will suggest multiple ways to phrase the questions to cover every angle.
- Questions must relate to a known fact. Not opinionated.
- Questions cannot contain 2 different issues combined into 1. A problem arises if the person is truthful to 1 part of the question and lying to the other part – this will result in inaccurate or inconclusive results.
The examiner will guide you as to the correct wording of the test. Trust his / her judgement and expertise.
The questions proposed during a private lie detector test are designed to reveal the facts. For example, you will want to know if you partner has been unfaithful, whether any sexual contact has taken place, how often and perhaps with how many people or specifically with whom. You may want to know how long a particular affair has been going on. When a relationship began and/or ended can also be queried. It’s usually not advisable to ask questions that relate to what a person believes or what their opinion is on a matter. Depending on how complicated an issue is an infidelity lie detector test can take up to 2 hours. Usually up to 8 questions will be proposed with 2 to 3 of them related specifically to the issue that has caused the problem. The remainder are questions the examiner needs to ask for metrics and behavioural purposes in building a profile of the subject.
Lie Detector Statement Test
If the issue is complex, the examiner may use an approved and very accurate technique of a statement test. The scanned copy of the statement will be enclosed in the final report with the result. The examinee will be given the opportunity to write a statement stating his / her position regarding the accusations. The examinee will then be asked if they have lied in any responses to the questions in their statement:
1) Have you withheld any information in the statement given today?
2) Have you lied in any way in the statement given today?
3) Is the statement given today in any way false?
Our testing is adapted accordingly on a case-by-case basis as there is no ‘one size fits all’ scenario of private issues whether it be infidelity, relationships, family theft, false accusations and domestic abuse.
Many elements must be taken into consideration such as the specific circumstances, the subject being examined and psychological and physical variances. You will see this professionalism when you meet with our examiner prior to the test to go over the questions that will be asked in the test.
The polygraph examination will only be conducted once you have discussed with the examiner exactly what you require to be established from the test and approve the questions that the examiner has formulated.
Pre-Examinatin Interview
On the day of the test the total time to complete all aspects can be up to 2 hours. If the test is conducted at your home, our accredited, specialist examiner will arrive discreetly in a normal (unbranded) car. If it is to take place in one of our offices, you check in with our receptionist by giving your names. It’s not necessary to state why you are there, she will already know. Our examiner will be notified of your arrival and greet you. Both parties can be present for the pre-examination interview when your relationship will be discussed in detail including the suspicions or other issues you have. Questions you may have stipulated during the reservation process or those you want to be proposed will also be discussed. The examiner will suggest the correct wording for each question to ensure you get the answers you require. The context and wording is important with close ended, definitive questions that ensure an accurate result is achieved.
Results and Reports
When the test is completed, if the results are irrefutable immediately, we are obliged to notify our client (our client is always the person who made the booking). If both parties are present and they are comfortable with the results being made available to both parties, our examiner will provide them verbally shortly after the test. However, this is only possible if the examiner deems the results to be conclusive. As with all of our reports the data derived from the test including charts, video and transcripts has to be analysed. After the analysis which ensures you get the authentic results the report is verified and sent to you. Usually this will be within 24 – 48 hours sent by email or tracked mail – the choice is yours. The examiner who conducted the test analyses the data and a second examiner verifies it before the report is sent.
