Position Overview:
As a Polygraph Examiner with IMPD, you’ll play a vital role in our investigative process. Your responsibilities will include interviewing subjects scheduled for polygraph testing, conducting examinations, interpreting results, and conducting follow-up interrogations when necessary. You’ll work closely with assigned investigators, coordinating strategies and ensuring adherence to departmental guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage in pre-polygraph activities, including obtaining information from investigators and preparing polygraph questions.
- Conduct polygraph examinations and accurately interpret results.
- Conduct follow-up interrogations of subjects showing signs of possible deception.
- Perform quality control checks on activities of other examiners and maintain polygraph equipment.
- Fulfill occasional duties such as instructing, preparing reports, and serving as an expert witness in court.
Qualifications:
To excel in this role, you’ll need:
- A Bachelor of Science in Sociology, Criminology, Behavioral Science, or related field.
- Five years of related work experience, or a combination of education and experience.
- Certification in polygraph examination from recognized associations.
- Knowledge of departmental and legal matters concerning polygraph protocol.
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining analog and computerized polygraph equipment.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in sensitive situations.
Independent Judgment:
Confidentiality is paramount in this role, as you’ll be handling sensitive information. Your actions will be guided by departmental and legal guidelines, with a focus on accuracy and respect for subjects’ rights. Collaboration with investigators and adherence to established procedures are essential for success in this position.
