Position Overview:

As a Polygraph Examiner with IMPD, you’ll play a vital role in our investigative process. Your responsibilities will include interviewing subjects scheduled for polygraph testing, conducting examinations, interpreting results, and conducting follow-up interrogations when necessary. You’ll work closely with assigned investigators, coordinating strategies and ensuring adherence to departmental guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in pre-polygraph activities, including obtaining information from investigators and preparing polygraph questions.
  • Conduct polygraph examinations and accurately interpret results.
  • Conduct follow-up interrogations of subjects showing signs of possible deception.
  • Perform quality control checks on activities of other examiners and maintain polygraph equipment.
  • Fulfill occasional duties such as instructing, preparing reports, and serving as an expert witness in court.

Qualifications:

To excel in this role, you’ll need:

  • A Bachelor of Science in Sociology, Criminology, Behavioral Science, or related field.
  • Five years of related work experience, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Certification in polygraph examination from recognized associations.
  • Knowledge of departmental and legal matters concerning polygraph protocol.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining analog and computerized polygraph equipment.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in sensitive situations.

Confidentiality is paramount in this role, as you’ll be handling sensitive information. Your actions will be guided by departmental and legal guidelines, with a focus on accuracy and respect for subjects’ rights. Collaboration with investigators and adherence to established procedures are essential for success in this position.
