Abstract
This study examined whether the Concealed Information Test (CIT) remains valid when applied to self-initiated deception rather than instructed cheating. In a trivia quiz paradigm, 65 participants cheated on their own initiative and 68 were instructed to cheat, then all underwent physiological CIT testing. Results showed that skin conductance, heart rate, and respiration successfully detected concealed information with no significant differences between self-initiated and instructed cheaters.
