About Fabiola Chaves
Fabiola Chaves is a polygraph examiner who conducted field research in Costa Rica during the early 2010s. Her field study tested the validity of the Integrated Zone Comparison Technique (IZCT) designed for specific issue testing and the ASIT PolySuite Algorithm for data analysis in a private commercial environment between April and December, 2009, at the G4S polygraph unit in Costa Rica. G4S Costa Rica provided polygraph tests (pre-employment, investigations, etc.) as part of their security services.
Chaves' research contributions focus on field validation of polygraph techniques and addressing unique testing challenges. Her 2010 study with Tuvia Shurany examined the Integrated Zone Comparison Technique and the ASIT PolySuite Algorithm, demonstrating high accuracy rates in real-world settings. Shurany & Chaves, 2010, reported in European Polygraph, indicated an accuracy of 98.8% in a field setting with a 5.9% rate of inconclusives. During this time period 27 cases were chosen to be tested with the IZCT. Out of these 27 cases, 21 were solved by confession. Her 2013 publication addressed specialized examination protocols, documenting best practices for testing deaf and mute examinees in Costa Rica, expanding the field's understanding of how to conduct valid polygraph examinations with individuals who have communication disabilities.
Chaves worked extensively with Tuvia Shurany, an internationally recognized polygraph expert and instructor. Tuvia Shurany es el Presidente de Lie Catcher, empresa de poligrafía con base en Costa Rica. Their collaborative research appeared in European Polygraph, a peer-reviewed journal that serves as an important venue for field validity studies and practical polygraph research from international examiners.

Testing a Deaf Mute Examinee in Costa Rica
The paper documents practical approaches for adapting polygraph examination procedures to accommodate examinees with hearing and speech disabilities. [002] 2010 European PolygraphThe Integrated Zone Comparison Technique and ASIT PolySuite Algorithm: A Field Validity Study
IZCT with ASIT PolySuite achieved 98.73% accuracy excluding inconclusives (92.9% including them), while manual 3-point scoring achieved 98.71% accuracy excluding inconclusives (91.7% including them), demonstrating exceptional field validity and near-perfect…Explore all research.
