About Eduardo Pérez-Campos Mayoral
Eduardo Pérez-Campos Mayoral is a researcher affiliated with the Benito Juárez Autonomous University of Oaxaca (UABJO), where he serves as a research professor at the Medicine and Surgery School and is a member of the National Researchers System, level 1 (SNI-1) of Mexico's National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT). Dr. Mayoral began his investigative career in 2004 after graduating with a B.S. in Forensic Science, starting as a police officer instructor at Oaxaca State Police, later becoming a detective for the attorney general office, and serving in state investigation units including internal affairs and truth control centers. He was named the Mexico representative for the International Investigative Interviewing Research Group (IIIRG), and holds the designation of CPII (Certified Professional Investigative Interviewer).
Dr. Pérez-Campos Mayoral has made significant contributions to the field of investigative interviewing and deception detection, particularly in Latin American contexts. His 2024 study analyzed historical methods of deception detection from ancient oracles to modern techniques, examining their scientific validation and establishing how some approaches like the Bisha Bedouin Court System laid theoretical foundations for current technologies, while highlighting the benefits of verbal interview approaches. His research on the Strategic Use of Evidence (SUE) technique demonstrated that police trainees who received SUE training achieved deception detection accuracy rates of 85.4%, compared to 56.1% for untrained trainees. He has also focused on applying the Conversation Management Approach to interview uncooperative criminal suspects, including cases of feminicide in Mexico.
His work has had substantial impact in promoting evidence-based interviewing techniques in regions where such practices are underdeveloped. He is an avid advocate of non-coercive interviews and interrogations based on ethics, good practice, and scientific evidence, training hundreds of professionals annually in careers such as Law, Psychology, Psychiatry, Criminology, Criminalistics and Forensic Sciences. He has collaborated extensively with internationally recognized experts including Pär Anders Granhag, Maria Hartwig, Mark Fallon, Mark Severino, and Haneen Deeb, as well as Ray Bull and Eric Shepherd. Dr. Pérez-Campos Mayoral serves as a consultant for Forensic Interview Solutions, collaborating with biomedical research groups and investigative interviewing organizations.
While his primary research focus is on investigative interviewing and credibility assessment within forensic and criminal justice contexts, Dr. Pérez-Campos Mayoral's academic background bridges multiple disciplines. His affiliation with a medical school and his broader publication record suggest interdisciplinary work spanning forensic science, psychology, and biomedical research, allowing him to bring diverse scientific perspectives to the study of human behavior and truth verification in investigative settings.
