About Daniel E. Sosnowski
Daniel E. Sosnowski is the owner and founder of SOS Polygraph Services, Inc., based in Marietta, Georgia, where he has been conducting polygraph examinations for 30 years and has conducted over 15,000 polygraph examinations. Dan is currently the President of the American Polygraph Association, having been the first president elected by polygraph members using a universal ballot system, and has served on the Board of Directors of the American Polygraph Association for 10 years. He was bestowed a Senior Research Fellow in Forensic Psychology at the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom, reflecting his significant contributions to international polygraph research.
Sosnowski has made pioneering contributions to post-conviction sex offender testing (PCSOT), particularly in establishing polygraph testing programs internationally. He conducted the very first polygraph exams with sex offenders in the United Kingdom, and the information learned from administering polygraph exams to individuals on probation led to the first research polygraph projects conducted by the Home Office in the United Kingdom. His 2005 pilot study with Daniel Wilcox on sexual history disclosure testing with British sex offenders was groundbreaking in demonstrating the utility of polygraph in treatment contexts. He co-authored a chapter dealing with polygraphs in The Use of the Polygraph in Assessing, Treating, and Supervising Sex Offenders: A Practitioner's Guide.
Sosnowski is widely recognized as a leader in the polygraph profession, particularly in sex offender management. He is recognized and considered to be one of the leading polygraph experts in the United States due to his diverse background and experience conducting and teaching polygraphs, and is considered to be one of the leading authorities in the world that deals with the use of polygraphs with sex offenders. He has served on the American Polygraph Association's Post-Conviction Sex Offender Testing Committee since 1998, and in 1999, Dan received the Al and Dorothea Clinchard award from the American Polygraph Association for his work on the PCSOT Committee. He is a PCSOT-qualified polygraph examiner and has trained well over 100 polygraph examiners to become qualified to conduct these highly specialized polygraph examinations. He was the director and primary polygraph instructor for the first ever polygraph school conducted at the University of Newcastle, and is on the Board of Directors for the British European Polygraph Association.
Beyond his clinical practice, Sosnowski has contributed to significant research initiatives evaluating polygraph applications in criminal justice settings. He was the lead polygraph examiner for a project assessing the use of polygraphs with individuals on probation for issues dealing with domestic violence, funded by Grant No. 2005-WG-BX-0010 awarded by the National Institute of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, U.S. Department of Justice. His collaborative work with British researchers, including Daniel Wilcox, Don Grubin, and Anthony Beech, has been instrumental in establishing the evidence base for post-conviction polygraph testing in Europe and advancing international standards for PCSOT practice.
