About the Authors

Gershon Ben-Shakhar (1942-2026) was an Israeli psychologist who served as president of the Open University of Israel and received the Israel Prize in 2024. He earned his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in Psychology from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he later taught as a Professor and served as Chair of the Psychology Department and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences. His main area of research was cognitive psychophysiology, focusing on the role of stimulus novelty and significance in orienting response elicitation and psychophysiological detection of deception and concealed information. He published over 100 articles and book chapters. Ben-Shakhar created Israel's unified psychometric test adopted by all universities and was attracted to translating basic research on physiological responses to personally-significant information into psychophysiological detection applications.

John J. Furedy (1940-2016) was a Hungarian-born Australian and Canadian psychophysiologist and distinguished research professor of psychology at the University of Toronto.
