Position Overview
As a Polygraph Examiner with the LVMPD, you will:
- Conduct polygraph examinations for criminal, internal, and pre-employment investigations.
- Interview and interrogate individuals to gather accurate information for investigations.
- Collaborate with other public agencies in providing polygraphic services.
This position operates under the direct authority of the Sheriff and is exempt from the competitive requirements of the LVMPD’s Civil Service Rules.
Qualifications and Requirements
To be considered for the role, the best candidates will possess:
- Education:
- Successful completion of a polygraph school accredited by the American Association of Police Polygraphists (AAPP) or the American Polygraph Association (APA).
- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and 1 year of experience in investigation or polygraphic examination; OR
- An Associate’s degree and 3 years of experience; OR
- A High School Diploma/GED and 5 years of experience in polygraph examination or investigation.
- Experience:
- Experience as a polygraph examiner in a law enforcement setting.
- Advanced investigative experience with a law enforcement agency.
Candidates must exemplify the values of the LVMPD both on and off duty.

- A Letter of Interest describing your interest and relevant qualifications (1 page maximum).
- A detailed Resume/Curriculum Vitae.
- Proof of completion of a polygraph course, including the name and date of the polygraph school attended.
- Certificates in any specialized training relevant to polygraph examinations.
Conditions of Employment
To be eligible for this position, applicants must meet the following conditions:
- Be a U.S. citizen, naturalized citizen, or permanent resident by the application deadline.
- Be at least 18 years of age by the application deadline.
- Participate in the LVMPD Mental Wellness Program.
- Adhere to LVMPD’s personal appearance policy, including regulations on tattoos, piercings, and professional attire while on duty.
