Position Overview
The DEA is seeking an experienced Investigative Analyst/Polygraph Examiner Quality Reviewer to join its Inspection Division. This role is critical in supporting the DEA’s mission to uphold national security and enforce the law by conducting polygraph examinations and quality reviews.
The primary responsibilities include:
- Administering polygraph examinations for pre-employment screening of Special Agents and Intelligence Research Specialists.
- Screening candidates for selection and placement.
- Testing suspects, witnesses, and confidential sources to support criminal and asset forfeiture investigations.
Key Responsibilities
Polygraph Examination and Review
- Utilize the Empirical Scoring System to review polygraph results and ensure adherence to ethical and technical standards.
- Conduct pre- and post-examination interviews to gather information relevant to adjudicative decisions for access to classified information or positions of public trust.
- Provide technical reviews of examination files, ensuring compliance with professional and ethical standards.
Expertise and Analysis
- Differentiate between disqualifying conduct and non-pertinent transgressions during law enforcement applicant assessments.
- Testify in legal proceedings as a sworn federal agent regarding criminal confessions or admissions obtained through polygraph examinations.
Collaboration and Support
- Assist DEA offices nationwide in pre-employment and operational polygraph screenings.
- Support adjudicative decisions by interpreting examination results and related data.
Minimum Qualifications
Selective Placement Factor:
- Federally certified polygraph examiner in good standing, with successful completion of the National Center for Credibility Assessment (NCCA) or predecessor Basic Psychophysiological Detection of Deception (PDD) course. (Certification must be submitted with the application.)
Experience Requirements:
- At least one full year of specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level or equivalent.
- Specialized experience includes:
- Proficiency in conducting polygraph pre- and post-examination interviews.
- Practical application of adjudicative techniques for access to classified information or public trust positions.
- Testifying in legal proceedings based on polygraph examination findings.
- Reviewing polygraph software data using the Empirical Scoring System.
Education Requirements:
- If qualifying based on education, applicants must submit college transcripts with the application.
Time-In-Grade Requirement:
- Applicants must meet time-in-grade and time-after-competitive appointment requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
